From the time I was 21 years old, I stared working mainly night shift as a bartender. Working night shifts was more convenient being I could be home to take my daughter to and from school being my shifts wouldn’t typically start till 4-5pm.

However, the problem now is that I have three more children and I am not in my 20’s anymore. Now that I am 40 years old, it’s much harder staying up late and trying to wake up at all in the morning. The one thing I do know, especially after experimenting with going to bed earlier and being mindful with waking up earlier, is that it does make a tremendous difference within my day. When I do get the proper amount of sleep at night I can actually wake up earlier making me way more productive and way less stressed out. I don’t feel like I’m playing catch up all day.

  1. Get the proper amount of sleep at night. Most importantly, try and go to bed and wake up at the same time. Not only does this give you discipline and creates a habit, also it will make a huge impact on your daily productivity.

  2. Get into the habit of going to bed earlier. This will help to make it easier to wake up earlier in the morning along with increasing your energy levels.

  3. Wake up before your kids if you have kids, or anyone for that matter in the home. This will give you some alone time that I’m sure you really need, all before the daily choas begins. As a night owl myself, I do get the STRUGGLE.

  4. Plan out your day first thing in the morning or even at night. Write down any daily routines and/or tasks that need to be done that day. The physical act of writing tasks down with pen and paper helps to hold yourself more accountable.

  5. Make sure to set aside some alone time, no matter how little or how much time you will have first thing in the morning. By focusing on your needs first in the morning will in turn help you to become more patient and productive throughout the day.

  6. Your morning routine isn’t just about waking up early to clean your home. You need to try and start your day off thinking about yourself. Even if thats only 15 minutes first thing in the morning.

  7. Create a morning routine that makes you excited to get out of bed In the early morning hours. By doing this step, you will look forward to waking up earlier everyday.

  8. Make sure your home is cleaned up and tidy from the night before. It is much more easier to wake up earlier in the morning when your home is already tidy, rather then waking up to a disaster.
