A few years back, right before the Covid 19 pandemic I composed a blog post on 16 Cleaning Tasks That Only Take 10 Minutes To Complete. As the years went by, I found that my readers still enjoy that blog post till this day. And being I have 5 kids, I’m always on the lookout for new ways to clean my home fast yet efficient. This is why I felt the need to share a part 2. When I had composed that original blog post I was just beginning to realize myself that something had to give. I could not function any longer living that way, for me living in a messy home had my anxiety worse than it ever was being my home was always a disaster. If it affected me in that way imagine how my kids felt.

Children can feel that tension and anxiety we adults feel when they live in that type of environment, but most children have a different reaction. Before you start saying anything I mean by living in a dirty home not just a home that’s messy, there is a huge difference between a messy home and a dirty home. When a child is growing up in a dirty, rodent infested home it not only effects their daily home, school and social life but it also will trickle over to their adult life as parents.

My issue is getting up the motivation to start cleaning because once I do begin, I will usually keep going. And I’m pretty sure that there is others out there with this problem, especially as a mom who already has issues with their motivation and productivity. Not to mention the issue with social media, there are so many different distractions that are keep us from being productive and I’m guilty of this everyday. More importantly, if you need social media for your business. Though, I am starting to understand the importance of doing certain tasks everyday in order to keep my home somewhat tidy.

Scour The Kitchen Sink

Putting off doing the dishes leads to nothing but a bigger chore. In all reality the dishes need to be done. I’ve leaned this the hard way, they need to get done everyday regardless of how dreadful the task is. Its also good to get into the routine of scoring your kitchen sink and cleaning under the rubber flap of your garage disposal, I try to do this at least once a week. Trust me I know how horrible this task is but once you put this into a routine it will be second nature. I suggest that you try to do this every morning or every night after the sink is clear of dirty dishes.

I suggest using a scrub mommy or scrub daddy (these cute but powerful sponges work amazingly), along with Barkeepers friend and a magic eraser. Wet your sink and turn the water off. Grab your barkeepers friend powder and sprinkle the entire inside of your kitchen sink. Afterwards add some water on top of your cleanser or even spray the coated sink with all purpose cleaner so it turns to a paste. Use your Scrub Daddy and scrub your sink (make sure to use a little elbow grease) then rise all out your sink really good . Lastly, wet a magic eraser (only Mr. Clean no generic shit) and scrub with your magic eraser once again. Rinse your sink again and top it off by polishing with Windex. Wait till you see the difference in the appearance of your sink.

Sweep Kitchen Floor

Usually I use my Shark Duo Clean Vacuum because it has a hard floor setting. However using a dust pan and brush will suffice. This is pretty much a no brainer especially if your about to mop the kitchen floor. It’s really up to your preference whether you use a vacuum or broom.

Mop Kitchen Floor

After sweeping or vacuuming grab a bucket and mop, my all time favorite is the O-Cedar Mop And Bucket combo. Not only does a traditional mop and bucket clean your floor way better then a swifter type mop, this bucket has a foot pedal to spin the mop head to get rid of excess water. This is a amazing mop, not only is it easy the mop head is replaceable and washable. Lastly, the mop head extends. I like to mop my walls also with my mop and bucket. What a difference in the appearance of your home after mopping the walls.

Clean Microwave

Grab a microwave bowl with water and vinegar. Place that bowl inside your microwave and set it for 2-3 minutes depending on how your microwave works. Afterwards take out the bowl carefully, it’s hot. Grab a rag and wipe all inside. This solution will loosen up any caked on food that needs to come off. This is amazing at making your microwave sparkling clean.

Wipe Bathroom Sink

Wiping the bathroom sink and counter make for a more cleaner bathroom. Add kids to the mix and you have globs of toothpaste stuck in your sink. Also if you like to up your game a bit scrub your toilet and around the base of the toilet. No more pee smell. I like to use the dawn disinfecting wipes and Kaboom bathroom foam.

Clean Window Tracks

Grab any kind of cleaning sponge and place it inside track of your windows. Use a marker to mark off the inside of your track onto the sponge. Cut slits where the marks are and slide it back and forth inside of the tracks of your windows. This is incredibly easy and effortless and will take all the dirt off from inside your window tracks.

Change Sheets & Bedding

If you don’t have clean back up bedding then you will have to strip the beds first. If you do, strip the old bedding and replace with clean bedding. If you have young children I suggest using a mattress protector to avoid any stains from accidents that may happen.

Dust Furniture

I like to use the pledge furniture wipes for this. But you can use any kind of spray or polish with a rage or even paper towels. Quickly wipe all tables down in main living areas of your home and a bonus, wipe glass picture frames with windex.

Vacuum Bedrooms

Vacuuming make a huge difference in the appearance of a room. Especially when done after tiding and making the beds, this will pull your whole room together. I use the Shark Duo Clean Vacuum. This is my favorite vacuum I’ve ever owned and has a ton of attachments and a lift away button.

Clear Out One Drawer

I suggest first writing down all the rooms and under each room the drawers and or cabinets that need attention. We all have many drawers that are overflowing with mostly junk, in my case at least. If your interested in a paper planner The Erin Condren Life Planner. Erin condrens life planners has a whole section in the back with different styles of blank paper. This area is perfect for writing down your cleaning tasks or decluttering tasks .

Clean Your Bathroom Shower While Inside The Shower

The steam from the shower being on helps to remove any soap scum and build up. I suggest do this before you take your shower. Grab bathroom spray and spray the tub and tile really good beforehand. Then before you take a shower, grab your extension scrub poles and scrub your shower. Then shower yourself. Another tie saver is, that’s if your bathroom isn’t that big use any kind of disinfectant wipes to clean the bathroom floor. Last thing is to wipe anything else that may be grimy.

Magic Erasers Are A Must Have Item

Magic Erasers work wonders for so many household tasks. Not only do they remove dirt or build up from your kitchen sink, they remove marks and scuffs on your walls, floors and furniture. I love to use these on white sneakers as well.

Get Rid Of Junk Mail As It Comes In Your House

Unless it’s coupons for a store you shop regularly, get rid of junk mail immediately. By doing this daily as the mail comes in will prevent the mounds of junk mail that pile up faster then you can imagine. And if there are some coupons you know that you’ll use try a small filing system. This can be used for important documents we tend to lose, mail, bills, coupons and school paperwork if you have kids that need attention. I love this file box from Erin Condren.

Sort & Toss School Papers

Im not talking about art work your kids made at school or achievements, I’m talking about paperwork that should be saved. Paperwork such as tests, homework assignments that are complete, graded and sent home amongst other school papers you don’t need to hold on to. Unless of coarse you want to hold on to everything. That’s totally your call. I suggested above to get a small file box, if you save certain paperwork that’s not art, cards or stuff made from your child at school, stuff you would look back on.

The Artwork can be framed and hung in a basement, living room, kitchen or bedrooms. Another idea I ran across on Pinterest which I thought was neat is to hang a thin burlap rope such as a craft rope from Michaels along a wall banner style. Then buy some small clothespins and hang art work along the rope. I’m going to try this idea myself, I’ll keep you all posted.

Organize School Supplies, Homework Area

You should have some sort of area in your home that’s designated for homework. Even if that may be a kitchen table. Make sure everything is stocked and neatly organized all in one spot. Get crayon, markers and pencil cups, also it’s a good idea to have a rolling cart such as this one to keep everything your organingvand storing. The good thing about these carts are the many different storage options. There are a so many add ons to organize your cart more from inside options to the outside the cart options. Here is the cart I use to organize and store my kids school supplies.
